Protective Orders

Protective Orders

  • There has been shown to be a link between animal cruelty and human violence, so it is important to protect animals
  • There are 29 states that allow animals to be included in the protective order
  • Although Georgia is not one of the many states that has a specific law in place for this a judge can include pets in protective orders:
    • OCGA sec 19-13-4(a)(8) – The order may “Provide for possession of personal property of the parties;
    • Include in Order “abuser shall not dispose of or remove pets from jurisdiction”
    • Include in Order that the specific animal “remain in the possession of the victim”
