Why Experts Are So Important?

Why Experts Are So Important?

Experts can make or break your case. Expert witnesses offer opinions that may assist the judge or jury in understanding technical knowledge in order to support their ability to make a sound ruling or render a verdict in a case.  An expert witness is used to explain and provide opinions about particularly complex issues that are beyond the general knowledge of most people. An effective expert witness is one that can take technical jargon and explain it in a way that the judge or typical juror can understand. The judge or jurors then take that information and uses it to help them understand parts of the case and render a verdict.

An expert witness’s role can involve much more than testifying in trial. An expert witness can also assist the trial attorneys in understanding certain facts they may not be familiar with. For instance, most prosecutors know very little about animal hoarding cases.  Hoarding is a complex animal cruelty issue, mental health issue and public safety issue. An expert witness can play an important role in educating prosecuting attorneys about animal hoarding and other animal related crimes.
