Evidence & How Evidence Should Be Stored

  • Evidence is usually stored in plastic or paper bags
  • Once wet evidence is in a secure location it must be removed and allowed to completely dry, if kept wet it could grow microorganisms and destroy or alter the evidence
  • Items that can cross contaminate should be packaged separately
  • Each container should contain the initials of the person collecting it, along with the date, time, and a description of the evidence and where it was found
  • Animals should be transported to veterinarians
